The Path To Finding Your Why

The Path To Finding Your Why

Many people describe their life as being okay. Kind of “blah” but that they have everything they thought they wanted.

They are stuck in the belief that external things will provide them with happiness. Graduate from university. Get a good job. Get married. Have kids.

Until recently, I was one of those people.

Here’s the problem though. These milestones, which are set out by society, will not automatically result in a fulfilled life. They do not provide you with values, a mission or a vision.

Trust me, I’ve been there and I know how miserable it is to feel stuck. You have that hopeless look in your eyes, like you’re just passing time in life without joy or aspiration. I wrote a little about this in my post How I Survived My Quarter-Life Crisis.

We wander aimlessly, simply going through the motions and hoping that one day we wake up and miraculously know what we want to do with our one short and precious life.

I don’t know about you, but I refuse to wait for that day to come. I don’t want to just settle for an okay life.

The moment you start settling is the moment you stop growing and learning.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about my desired future. What is my vision? What is my why?

These are some tough questions, I know.

I’m on the path to figuring out what I want my life to look like. I don’t have all the answers yet… and the funny thing is that I probably never will. And that’s okay.

But here’s what I do know.

I know that I plan to live life to the fullest. I’m want to create a life that I don’t need a vacation from. I’m surrounding myself with positive people who lift me up and motivate me to be the best version of myself.

I want to wake up every day with motivation and passion for life.

I am grateful for the opportunities that I’m given and I trust that The Universe has my back in times of uncertainty or when faced with the unknown.

I’m loving myself first and foremost because without self-love you cannot give love.

I’m sharing all these thoughts with you because I know some of you will be able relate on some level with what I’m saying.

The Path To Finding Your Why

The Path To Finding Your Why

Finding your true life’s path can be overwhelming and scary. But often, the most difficult paths lead to the most beautiful destinations.

If you don’t know what you want in life, that’s okay. But you need to to make a start. Right now. You need to figure out what you want. Otherwhise you are just reacting to what cards life deals you. So try something – anything. Just get started. You can always change your vision.

Having the courage to change your life and get outside of your comfort zone is the key to living a great life. Here’s what I’m doing to stay motivated on my path to finding my why.

In order to create my life vision I’ve decided to list different categories of things that matter the most to me.

These include:

Health – exercise, diet, mindfulness, intention

Self-Love – love yourself first and foremost

Purpose – finding my true passion and pursuing it with intent

Experiences – create and cherish moments, make memories

Relationships – curate, cultivate and cherish them

Financial Independence – creating a level of wealth that supports my vision

Contentment – being happy with who you are (perhaps the ultimate goal in life)

Your list should look different. It’s all about what matters to you, because this is about creating a life that YOU love.

This list will help you figure out what you need to do to accomplish what is on your list. From this list you can start working backwards and craft a statement of what your ideal life looks like. I know this exercise might sound a little too “woo woo” spiritual for you, but it will seriously help you get closer to figuring out your vision.

Creating a vision for your life might seem like a frivolous, fantastical waste of time, but it’s not: creating a compelling vision of the life you want is actually one of the most effective strategies for achieving the life of your dreams.

Final Note

Being on the pursuit of a happy and fulfilling life will not always be an easy road. Figuring out your path in life can be stressful, discouraging and lonely. But it can also be exciting, badass and rewarding!

By creating a vision for yourself, by defining what you want in life, you are on your way to fulfillment — you’re on your way to greatness.

Once you start moving, you will begin to figure out what’s working and what’s not. By growing, learning and thinking about your life, you will learn what fulfills you.

I know that I want to live a life of purpose. A life of balance and fulfillment. I also know that this is possible because others have done it before me.

I’ve made a start. I’m figuring out what I want.

 I’m figuring out my why.

Now it’s your turn!

XO Sandy
